I am a jazz bassist and professional photographer living in Vermont. Chloramine replaced chlorine in my water district in 4/06. My water district was the first to swictch to chloramine in Vermont and if I have anything to do with it it's the last place. I have a reaction to it and cannot touch the water with anything but my hands. I buy bottled spring water (which I don't believe in doing but it is extremely hard - almost impossible - and very expensive to remove chloramine from the water and am forced to use purchased spring water for everything (cooking, teeth brushing, daily face-washing, "Bird baths", etc.) I haven't showered in my home since 5/06. Instead I go to the YMCA in a nearby town that still uses chlorine to disinfect the water.

I founded People Concerned About Chloramine in 5/06 and today we have 297 people who suffer symptoms (respiratory, digestive and/or skin) from exposure to chloramine in their tap water who have contacted us. Of those, 50-60 of the people with more severe health effects have gone to the incredible incovenience and expense to remove themselves from exposure to the chloraminated water. Some use bottled spring water to bathe at home, some bathe or shower at relatives' homes who are on well water or live in a district that does not use chloramine, and some go to the Y like I do. All of those people got better after they removed themselves from the chloramine.

We are working with grassroots citizens groups in CA, NY, and PA who are also fighting chloramine. Through the internet we are aware of people who are having the same symptoms we suffer from chloramine in their water- from 22 states, Canada and Scotland. This is in incredible and daunting issue.
